About Malia
I believe that everyone is doing their best—and with knowledge, support, and time, healing and growth are possible for anyone. My approach to therapy is supportive while offering structure and challenges for healthy change. Therapeutic work is grounded in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, utilization of experiential techniques and insights from neurobiology. I see therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to identify patterns, gain new perspectives, and explore meaningful changes to help reduce symptoms and enhance life satisfaction.
I bring over 25 years of experience helping individuals navigate grief, trauma, life transitions, mental illness, and substance use challenges. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alabama and nationally certified by the NADAAC, with additional certification as a Substance Abuse Professional. I’m also certified to treat trauma using Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy—both are evidence-based approaches for addressing post-traumatic stress symptoms.
My passion for mental health began in my late teens through volunteer work and has continued across hospital, residential, and outpatient settings—supporting clients from diverse backgrounds with compassion and respect. My goal is to offer you a space to process, reflect, and change with the goal of moving to a healthier and more meaningful life.
